Buddhist monks in Brooklyn robbed at gunpoint after thieves break into temple

Three armed men forced their way into a Buddhist temple in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon and made off with an armful of cash.

The armed robbery happened at around 2:30 pm at Wat Samakki-Dhammikaram at 26 Rugby Road in Flatbush.

The NYPD said four monks were inside the temple when armed robbers entered from behind. At least one armed robber pointed a gun at the monks and demanded they return money and property.

The three, believed to be all men, fled on foot north on Rugby Road. The suspects are absconding as of Sunday evening.

"The monks are very scared now, they are very scared," Kim Duong, 52, told The New York Daily News. "It's fortunate no one was hurt."

Fox News Digital has contacted Temple for further comment.
